Privacy Policy

Coocooo ("Coocooo," "we," "us," or "our") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have when you use the Coocooo mobile app and our website at c00c.ooo (together, the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to this Policy.

Coocooo is a slow-communication app: you write a letter and a virtual carrier pigeon "flies" it to someone you've connected with, arriving after a realistic delay. We collect as little as possible — there are no ads, no behavioral tracking, and we never sell your personal information.

1. Information We Collect

• •Account information. Your email address and a password (stored only in hashed form by our authentication provider).
• •Profile information. Your display name, your home city, and an optional profile photo.
• •Letters and photos. The photos of the handwritten letters you send, plus any optional attached photo. These are stored so they can be delivered to, and read by, the person you sent them to.
• •Journey and connection data. The cities and route of each letter's journey, its timing and progress, and the connections you form with other users — including a "discoverability" setting you control.
• •Location (optional). If you choose to send a letter "from where you are," we use your device location once, at that moment, to set the journey's starting point. We never track your location in the background. See §4.
• •Purchases. If you buy credits or in-app items, the purchase is handled by Apple or Google and our purchases provider (RevenueCat). We receive a confirmation and keep a record of your credit balance; we never receive your full payment-card details.
• •Minimal technical data. Basic information needed to run and secure the app (e.g., app version and security/troubleshooting logs). We do not use third-party analytics or advertising SDKs in the app.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

• •create and secure your account;
• •deliver your letters and run their journeys (routes, timing, and the real-world weather shown along a route);
• •let you connect with and send letters to other people;
• •process purchases and maintain your credit balance;
• •provide support and respond to your requests;
• •keep the Service safe from abuse, fraud, and misuse; and
• •comply with legal obligations.

We do not send marketing messages — in fact Coocooo sends no push notifications at all — and we do not use your letters or photos for advertising or to train AI.

3. How We Share Information

We share information only with the providers that help us run Coocooo, and only as needed:

• •Supabase — our backend: authentication, database, and secure storage for your letters and photos.
• •Apple App Store / Google Play and RevenueCat — to process and validate in-app purchases.
• •Google Places — to look up and match cities when you set your home city or a letter's origin (place names and search text only).
• •Maps providers (Apple Maps / Google Maps) — to display maps and letter routes in the app.
• •Our weather source — to reflect real-world weather along a letter's route (based on the route's locations, not your identity).

We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users or the Service. We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it with advertisers.

4. Location

Location is optional and used only when you actively choose to start a journey from your current position. It is used once to set that journey's origin and is never collected continuously or in the background. You can decline the location permission and pick a city manually instead — the app works fully without it.

5. The Live Skies Map

Coocooo shows a "Live Skies" map of letters currently in flight around the world. This map is anonymous and aggregate — it shows only route arcs, never your name, your recipient, or the content of any letter.

6. Data Retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. Because Coocooo is built around keepsake correspondence, letters you've exchanged remain part of that correspondence and are not individually deletable — much like a real letter you've received. If you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information and content within a reasonable period, except where we must keep certain records to comply with law, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements.

7. Your Rights and Choices

You can:

• •access and update your profile in the app;
• •delete your account from Settings (or by contacting us), which removes your personal data as described in §6;
• •request a copy of your personal data; and
• •withdraw location permission at any time in your device settings.

To exercise any right, contact us at hello@c00c.ooo. Depending on where you live (for example the EEA/UK or California), you may have additional rights, including to object to or restrict processing; we honor these where they apply.

8. Data Security

We protect your information using encryption in transit and at rest, access controls, and reputable infrastructure providers. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we work to protect your information and to notify you and the relevant authorities of a breach where the law requires.

9. Children's Privacy

Coocooo is not intended for children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

10. International Users

We run the Service on infrastructure that may store and process data in the United States and other countries. By using Coocooo, you understand your information may be transferred to and processed in countries with different data-protection laws; we take steps to protect it consistent with this Policy.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the "Last Updated" date and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or on c00c.ooo. Continuing to use the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Policy.
